FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

SmartWater® should ideally be brushed in a continuous line along joints and seams of lead or copper roofing, (where one sheet of metal joins the next) and along edges of any flashing, (where it comes out of the wall and along the bottom edge). SmartWater can also be applied to communion items and other valuables inside the church – a special internal items pack can be purchased, if you only need to mark these removable items.

By ordering online, your church will be entered onto SmartWater’s database prior to your goods being shipped. As a result, there is no need to return any documentation after the application has been completed.

SmartWater can be applied by near enough anyone and no special / formal training is required. In some cases, the church may wish to employ the services of a contractor, hire scaffolding or large ladders to apply SmartWater. Anyone considering working at height to apply SmartWater should exercise caution and make sure that they read any working at height guidance beforehand.

We use the following formula, to calculate how much coverage you will get out of each pack size, 1ml of SmartWater traceable liquid = 1 linear metre of coverage (i.e. a 50ml bottle of SmartWater traceable liquid will cover 50 linear metres of external metal).

Yes, each pack includes an adequate supply of external deterrent signage. Displaying this signage proves that the church is actively protecting its property. This deters criminals and makes a prosecution and conviction more likely in the event of a theft.

SmartWater signs are best displayed where criminals might gain access to items at risk. This could be a wall adjacent to a low-level roof, a drainpipe providing access to the roof or perhaps next to a lightning conductor. Perimeter fencing and gates permitting entry to the church also present an ideal location for erecting signage, thus deterring thieves before they gain entry to the site.

Areas of the church that are not generally overlooked are also good, though areas of poor visibility such as the inside of a porch should be avoided.
